“The last resistance city of the incas during the time of the Spanish conqueror”.
The archaeological site of CHOQUEQUIRAW is part of the complex system of Andean towns in Vilcabamba Valley. In the time of the Incas, it was united and in communication with Machu Picchu by a complex network of trails.
CHOQUEQUIRAW is located in the spurs of the mountain range of Salkantay, at 3035 m.a.s.l, surrounded by the snowcapped Apus of Yanama, Ampay, Choquecarpu, Pumasillo and Panta on the right side of Apurimac river in the Santa Teresa district, The Convention province of the departament of Cusco.
It is named in different ways: Choquequirao , Choquekirao , Chokekirao , Choqekirao , Choquekirau, Choquekiraw , Chokekiraw . Choquequiraw is an Inca town formed by small sites spread out in rubblework that in its adjoining constructs a complex metropolis similar to those of the other regions placed on the crest of the hill by the same name Choquequiraw.
ITINERARY
DAY 01
4:00am We leave from Cusco. Arriving at Cachora town at 6:30 in the morning where we will have our
breakfast. Hereafter we arrange the equipment on mules and horses. From that place we can observe the majestic PADRAYOC snowcovered peaks, it is 5482 m.a.s.l. The hike on this first day is 21.70 km of distance. On the way we will observe PADRAYOC and WAYNA CACHORA snowcovered peaks. desde el poblado observaremos los nevados PADRAYOC y WAYNA CACHORA, trekking to “Playa Rosalina” (1550 msnm). Campsite in Santa Rosa.
DAY 02
Early morning (5:00 am) after breakfast, we continue our hike going up to Choquequiraw. We will arrive to the archaelogical place CHOQUEQUIRAW after 5 hours. Good time to enjoy that majestic place. We will observe the three levels of the excavated ruin, where we can appreciate houses, terraces and other parts of this late inca-town, like the ruin in progress of excavation and finally areas unexplored that can tell us about this last refuge of the oppressed inca empire. Approximately at 3 o´clock in the afternoon (depends of the weather) we can apreciate “the flight of the Condors”. Campsite at Choquequirao.
DAY 03
After an early breakfast we pack and start walking back to CHIQUISQA. On the way we can observe again Apurimac canyon . Here we may be lucky to apreciate the flight of the Condors, the exuberant vegetation and its variety of flowers and orchids.
The time of the hike is about 10h. Altitud: 3033-1950 m.a.s.l. Passing the same small settlements as on the way up. We will stop in PLAYA ROSALINA where we will have our lunch and after that we´ll continue to CHIQUISQA. Here we will spend the night on our campsite.
DAY 04
Early morning after breakfast (5:00 am), we continue to arrive to Cachora town. On the hike we can apreciate again the majestic PADRAYOC snowcovered peak that decorate to APURIMAC canyon. The time of hike to arrive to CACHORA is about 7 horas. In the way back to CUSCO we make a stop in SAYHUITE and CCONOC. Here you canenjoy of the HOT NATURAL SPRINGS!! Showers are available the same time we can see native product of the area. We will arrive to CUSCO aproximately at 10pm.

NOT INCLUDES:
- Breakfast on the first morning. Some hotels offer an early morning breakfast service. If not, we stop at the town of Cachora before starting the trek where you’ll have the opportunity to have breakfast.
YOU SHOULD BRING:
- Backpack, Sleeping bag
- Rain jacket or poncho (plastic ponchos can be purchased in Cusco for a few dollars)
- Strong, comfortable footwear
- One complete change of clothing
- Sweater and jacket (something warm)
- Wter bottle and purification tablets (Micropur are recommended and can be bought in local pharmacies in Cusco).
- Flashlight and batteries.
- Hat or cap to protect you from the sun, Sun block (sun protection cream), Insect repellent
- Toiletries, towel and toilet paper
- Selection of small snacks, chocolate, dried fruit, biscuits etc
- Camera, plenty of film and spare batteries
- Swimsuit.
